Lady Eagles spilt in Dexter

The Oran High School girls basketball teams traveled to Dexter last night. The Junior Varsity won 46-28.  The Varsity lost a heart-breaker 53-52.

In the opener, the Lady Eagles led 11-2 after one and 27-9 at the break.  The two squads played even during the second half.

Hannah Boshell and Emma Priggel led the winners with nine each.  Traci Hency scored eight.  Haley Boshell had five, including a trey.  Taylor Hobbs hit a three-pointer to account for her points and Dailey Siebert scored two.  They were 8-14 from the line for 57.1% and improved to 10-1 on the year.

Coach Larry Boshell said, "The JV just seems to get it done right now, it isn't always pretty but the effort is there and these girls want to get better every time out.  They finish up tonight with 2 quarters against Scott City."

In the nightcap, the old adage "Free throws don't win all the games..." was put to the test and it was proven again.  On the night, the Lady Eagles hit only 14 of 32 from the charity-stripe for 43.7% in the one-point loss.

Katie Webb led Oran with 18 points.

Grace Davis had nine.  Kaylee Payne and Hope Woodfin each had seven.  Payne had a three-pointer.  Taylor Lowes hit two-threes to account for her scoring and Mallory Lowes hit a three.  Heather Gosche added a field goal

Coach Boshell said, "I thought the team played hard but we had way too many unforced errors and missed way too many free throws to win a big game.  The good thing is that it is a regular-season game and we have a chance to come back and play again.  I told the girls to think about what they did right and wrong, but do not dwell on it, come out tonight against Scott City and start playing toward the goal of reaching the final four.  We have the talent, desire and effort, we just have to put all those together every night from here on out. "

The Lady Eagles travel to Scott City tonight.  The junior varsity will play two-quarters before varsity.
