The Tradition continues!

It's almost expected now.  But it is still special.  For the fouth-year in a row, both the boys and girls basketball teams have been crowned district champs.  The girls won their seventh-straight title last night over St. Vincent, 61-32, in a game that did not feel that close, Oran led 47-10 at the half.

Kaylee Payne led all scorers with 15.  She hit two treys and had three assists and four steals, The latter two led the Lady Eagles.  Katie Webb had 13.  She nailed a three-pointer and had a team-high seven rebounds. Taylor Lowes also had 13 and had a game-high three threes.

Toni Henci had six points, Grace Davis finished with four, Hope Woodfin and Kennedi McVay hit treys for their points and Heather Gosche and Mallory Lowes had two apiece.

Coach Larry Boshell said, "I was very pleased with the level of intensity we started the game with.  We were able to get some steals on the front and back of our press.  The girls did a great job of being in the right place and anticipating and we got some steals and easy buckets.  Heather had her best game in the middle of our press and hopefully, that carries over.  Taylor, Kaylee, and Hope knocked down some threes for us.  We were moving the ball offensively as they were doubling Katie in the post, and she still had double-digit points, and we hit several threes to help counteract that.  It is nice to know that if they try to take away our post that our outside game is more than capable of making them pay.  I do not feel we are one dimensional right now and hopefully, that keeps us playing in the postseason."

the girls were 9-14 from the line for 64.3 %.  The made 14 of 35 from inside the arc for 40% and 8 of 22 from beyond for 36.4%.  They improved to 23-5 and will play in the sectional round next Wednesday at 6 pm in Jackson against the winner of tonight's C2D4 championship game at Crystal city between the 7-20 hosts and Viburnum (7-14).

Boshell added, "We will find out who we play in the sectional round as those teams play in their championship tonight and then we will start preparing for them and make any adjustments as necessary."

The boys picked up their fourth-district title in a row with a 61-48 victory.  The Eagles led 27-19 at the half.  The Indians cut the lead to four 35-31 about midway through the third period and had multiple opportunities to slice it further.  But Oran held tough and closed ou the quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 43-31 lead into the fourth and held on for a 13-point win.

Tyson Goodale led all scorers with 20, including one from beyond the arc.  And was 5-5 from the line. He just missed a double-double with a team-high nine rebounds Cooper Priggel had a game-high four treys and 16 total points before fouling out late.  Langdon Scheeter after being held scoreless on Tuesday. put in 13 including two from beyond the arc.

Ty Jonhson put in eight and had a team-high three assists. Todd Priggel and Samuel Shoemaker had two points apiece.

The boys were 19-26 from the line for 73.1%, including 10-13 in the fourth.  They made 9-23 inside the arc for 39.1% but 8 of 20 from beyond 40%.  They were outrebounded by the taller Indians 36-25 and forced 18 turnovers while committing 14 of their own.

Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "We played a very well-coached team who battled until the end.  I was proud of the boys to battle through some adversity and hold their composure on the way to a district championship.  It was a total team effort and we were able to hold their leading scorer to one field goal for the game and four total points.  Now. we have to get ready for the next round and whoever we play."

The boys improved to 24-5 and will take on the winner of tonight's winner between Brentwood (13-11) and Crystal City (13-12).  Next Wednesday at Jackson at 7:45.
