Baseball Wins Third Straight

Reischman picks up the win against Puxico while
Preston Hahn looks on.
The Oran Eagles baseball team picked up it's first road victory and third overall yesterday in Puxico 12-0.  Oran scored in every inning except one as they routed the Indians.

Drew Reischman led the way at the plate and on the mound. The Eagle sophomore was 4-4 and had 6 RBI. He allowed only 1 hit during his 6 innings pitched.

Senior Preston Hahn got things started for Oran after one was out in the first when he was hit by a pitch.  Reischman then drove the ball through the right center field gap to the fence for an RBI triple. Sophomore Clay Sauceda grounded out to the second baseman allowing Reischman to score.

After one inning Oran was up 2-0.

In the second inning sophomore Layne Johnson walked with one out.  He advanced to third on sophomore Denver Elfrink's two-out single and scored when the throw in got away from the catcher.

The third inning started with a walk to Hahn and an rbi double to center by Reischman and Oran was up 4-0.

The Eagles put the game out of reach in the fifth inning when they pushed across 4 runs.

Cole Priggel opened the frame with a single to right.  The sophomore advanced to third on Hahn's hit and run single and crossed the plate after the ball got past the right fielder.  It also allowed Hahn to advance to second.  Hahn was on third after a wild pitch when Reischman singled up the middle for his third RBI of the game. After a stolen base, Reischman scored on sophomore Clay Sauceda's RBI single to center.

Freshman Jacob Shoemaker entered the game as a courtesy runner for Sauceda and promptly stole second base.  He moved to third on senior Blake Overfield's ground out and scored when senior Tanner McVay laced a double down the third base line into the left field corner.

After batting around in the fifth, Priggel once again led off. In the sixth Priggel walked, moved to second after an errant throw on a pick off attempt.  Hahn's ground out to second moved him to third.  A long fly ball to center by Reischman was dropped and Priggel scored.

In the seventh inning Puxico's defense really crumbled and allowed 3 more unearned runs.  After two were out, Junior Drew Mitchem reached on an infield error.  That was followed by another infield error, this time off the bat of Elfrink.  Priggel then walked to load the bases.  Hahn hit ground ball that was also booted allowing Mitchem to score. Reischman continued to pound the ball by ripping a bases-clearing double to cap the scoring at 12.

Meanwhile Reischman (1-0 2 saves) was in complete control on the mound with his six shut out innings.  He allowed only 1 hit, walked 1 and struck out 7.  He did hit 1 batter.

Johnson pitched the seventh inning.  He allowed 1 hit and struck out 3.

Offensively, Reischman had a triple and 2 doubles in his 4-4 day with 2 runs scored and a stolen base to go along with his 6 RBI. Sauceda was 1-4 with 2 RBI. Hahn was 1-3 with 3 runs scored plus a RBI.  McVay was 1-4 with 1 run driven in.

Priggel finished 1-3 with 3 runs scored.  Elfrink was 1-4 and scored once.  Johnson and Mitchem each scored a run.

Oran, now 3-0, will travel to Bloomfield on Wednesday.  The game with the Wildcats is scheduled to start at 4:30 pm.
