JHGB Pick up Wins in Chaffee

Sam Welter nails a 3!
The Oran Junior High School girls basketball team opened its season last night by bringing home two victories from Chaffee.  The 7th grade won 32-13, while it took a second half comeback in the 8th grader's win 39-35.

In the nightcap, the Eagles out scored host Chaffee 14-4 in the third quarter, turning a 5 point half time deficit into a 5 point lead 34-29. They were able to hold on despite not hitting any field goals in the fourth quarter for the four point win.

Oran overcame foul trouble that saw one player foul out and three more finish the game with 4 fouls.

Coach Ethan Evans had this to say, "The 8th grade overcame a ton of foul trouble to defeat a good Chaffee team. The way they handled adversity in the second half showed a lot about their character."

Sam Welter led the team in scoring with 12.  Taylor Lowes finished with 8, all in the second half. Both hit a pair of free throws down the stretch to help keep the Eagles on top.  Heather Gosche finished with 7 before fouling out.

Rylee Boshell hits a field goal.
As a team, they were 5-10 from the free throw line to account for all of their fourth quarter scoring. On the night they were 11-18 (61%).

The evening's opening game saw Oran jump out to a 16-4 half-time lead. They never looked back,
winning by 19.

Mallory Lowes scored 16 to lead the Eagles.  Hope Woodfin chipped in 10.

After the game Coach Evans said, "I was pleased with the way the 7th grade played offensively and defensively. With this being some of the girls first time playing on the junior high level they really stepped up."

Oran will be back in action on Thursday when they will host Scott City in a conference match-up.
The 7th grade will start at 6
pm.
