Baseball Falls at Home

Denver Elfrink singles in the 6th inning against Puxico.
After winning the first five games of their inaugural fall season, the Oran High School baseball team has now lost two in a row.

For the second consecutive game, the Eagles jumped out to a first inning lead and then were held scoreless the rest of the way as they fell to the Puxico Indians yesterday 4-2.

After escaping a bases-loaded two-out jam in the top of the first,  Oran used three walks, a RBI single by Drew Reischman and a wild pitch to plate 2 runs and take the lead.  Unfortunately, after that, the Eagles would score no more, collecting only three hits rest of the way.

Layne Johnson got the start on the mound for Oran.  He went the first 2 innings.  He gave up 2 runs, both earned, on 1 hit. He walked 5, hit a batter, committed a balk and struck out 3.  Reischman (1-2) went the middle 3 innings and took the loss.  He gave up 2 runs, 1 earned, on 3 hits.  He walked no one while striking out 4.  He was charged with 2 wild pitches.  Preston Hahn finished the game, pitching the sixth and seventh innings.  He allowed no runs or hits.  He walked 1, hit a batter and struck out 3.

At the plate, Reischman led the way going 2-2 with a double.  He scored a run and had the only Oran RBI.  He was on base all four plate appearances, walking twice, once intentionally.

Johnson and Denver Elfrink were both 1-3.  Cole Priggel scored a run, stole 2 bases after walking twice.

The home team accepted 8 walks on the day but stranded 9 base runners and had 1 picked off.

The Eagles, now 5-2, will look to heat the bats back up tomorrow when they travel to Leopold to take on the Wildcats at 4:15.

The season concludes on Saturday when Oran hosts the Bernie Mules in a double-header beginning at 11 am
