Junior High Girls fall to SCC

Taylor Lowes hits a jumper
Tuesday night in a loss to SCC
The Oran Junior High girls basketball team dropped an 8th grade only conference contest to the Scott
County Central Bravettes last night by a score of  35-33.

Oran jumped out to a 12-4 first quarter lead but was only up by three at the half, 20-17.

The margin was still three heading into the final stanza, 26-23.

The Eagles were able to maintain the lead throughout most of the fourth quarter but fell behind late. Taylor Lowes hit a trey with under a minute to go to tie the game. Scott Central hit two free throws with 5.1 seconds left to take the lead.  A last second shot by Oran missed the mark and the Eagles came up just short.

After the game Coach Ethan Evans said, "We got off to a fast start and had a chance to blow the game wide open but couldn't sustain our pace. We made some mental mistakes and shot ourselves in the foot. Free throws will help you win close games and we missed 9 of them."

Oran was 2-11 from the charity stripe.

Lowes led the Eagles, now 2-2 and 3-2, with 17 points including 2 from beyond the arc.  Heather Gosche had 6.  Lyndsi Bryant and Samantha Welter had 4 apiece.  Mallory Lowes chipped in 2.  Welter had a three-pointer.

Oran will be back in action on Thursday when they host the Woodland Cardinals at 6 pm.
