Junior High Eagles fly past Hawks

It was a double-header sweep for the junior high Eagles girls basketball teams last night as they defeated conference foe Kelly on the road.  The 7th grade beat the Hawks 30-7 while the 8th grade picked up a 45-8 victory.

"It was nice to get back in the win column for the 7th grade. After a slow start we really picked it up in the 2nd and 3rd quarters both offensively and defensively. The girls finally showed the toughness that we have been talking about everyday in practice,"  said Coach Ethan Evans.

Oran led 4-2 after the first quarter but exploded in the second for a 17-2 margin at the half.

Heading into the final period the Eagles were on top 30-5 before the 30-7 final score.

Mallory Lowes  scored 12 to lead all scorers.  Cousins Hannah and Rylee Boshell each had 6, while Kara Phillips, Alyssa Spane and Hope Woodfin all chipped in a bucket apiece.

The younger team was 2-8 from the free throw line for 25%.  They are now 2-2 in the Scott-Miss and 2-3 overall.

In the evening's second game, it was all Eagles again.

Oran jumped out 11-3 after one and 24-7 at the half.

Kelly would manage only 1 free throw in the second half as the Eagles cruised to the 37 point victory.

Heather Gosche claimed honors for most points with 15.  Samantha Welter was also in double-digits with 13.  She hit 1 from beyond the arc and was 2-2 from the free throw line.

Mallory Lowes had 7 and was 1-1 from the charity stripe, while her sister, Taylor, added 6.

Lyndsi Bryant and Bailey Shipley each scored 2 for an Oran team that now stands at 3-2 in conference play and 4-2 in all games.

The elder group was 6-14 from the line for 43%.

Coach Evans said, "I thought the girls did an excellent job defensively the entire game. There were a lot of fouls called and they did a good job adjusting their style of play. It's always good to come score in double digits in each quarter and to hold the other team to single digits. "

The junior high girls will be back in action on Wednesday when the host the Cape Central Tigers at 6 pm.
