After Monday night's game against big school Sikeston, Coach Shoemaker warned of a potential let down. Last night we saw both ends of the spectrum against visiting East PrairieThe seventh grade, who had picked up an exciting one-point victory over the Bulldogs the night before, struggled through the first half last night.
Oran trailed 26-20 at the half after leading 14-9 after one.
After half-time, the Eagles came out with more fire. Oran tied the score at 28 with 3:46 left in the third. By the time the quarter ended the Eagles were up 35-30, enroute to a 43-35 victory.
Ty Johnson was the leading scorer with 18, he hit 2 from beyond the arc. Kaden Hargrove had 12, including 4-4 from the free throw line, all in the final period. He also had 2 long range field goals. Dan Shands scored 6, Drew Smith had 5 with one trey and Kaleb Gosche chipped in 2.
Oran was 8-16 from the line for 50%. They improved their conference record to 3-0 and 9-2 overall.
The eighth grade, who had suffered its first loss of the season the night before and had suffered a two-point defeat to East Prairie last year, came out with fire in their eyes as they jumped out to a 24-11 first quarter lead.
By half, the game was all but over, with the Eagles up 45-17.
Heading into the fourth, Oran led 64-20.
After a running clock during the final period, Oran claimed a 66-25 victory.
Four Eagles scored in double-digits, led by Todd Priggel's 20. Jakob Findley hit for 16, Landon Stanberry scored 14 with one three-pointer and Tyson Goodale added 12.
Gabe Fox chipped on 4 for Oran who also improved their conference record to 3-0. Overall they are 10-1.
The Eagles were 5-9 from the free throw line last night for 56%.
Oran will be back in action on Thursday night when they host the Delta Bobcats at 6 pm. Last year the seventh grade lost to Delta twice.
