The Oran Junior High School boys basketball teams picked up two wins tonight over the Oak RidgeBlue Jays. The seventh grade came out on top 47-29. The eighth grade team avenged last year's 51-15 loss with a 57-34 win.
In game one, the Eagles jumped out to a 12-6 first quarter lead but led by only two at the half, 22-20.
After the intermission, Oran appeared revitalized as they out-scored the Jays 18-4 to lead 40-24 heading into the final quarter on their way to the 18 point victory.
Ty Johnson equaled Oak Ridge's point output with 29 of his own. His total included 3 three-pointers.
Kaleb Gosche and Kaden Hargrove each contributed six, Drew Smith had 4 and Dane Shands chipped in 2.
Oran was 2 of 3 from the line for 67%. They improved their record to 7-2.
In the night cap, the Eagles once again double up the visitors after one quarter, this time 14-7.
In the second period, Oak Ridge came roaring back, scoring 7 straight points to tie the game at 14 about a minute and a half in. An Oran time-out stemmed the tide and the Eagles regained the momentum and was on top 27-16 with 1:44 to go when the Jays called time. When the half-time horn sounded, the Eagles led 31-18.
The home team was never threatened in the second half as they out scored Oak Ridge 13-11 in the third and 13-5 in the final period and won by 23.
Todd Priggel led a trio of double-digit scorers with 19, including one from beyond the arc. Tyson Goodale added 15 and Landon Stanberry had 13. He too, had a trey.
Jakob Findley scored 6. Gabe Fox and Tristen Schlosser each hit for 2 points.
Oran was only 1 for 5 on free throws for a disappointing 20%. They upped their record to 9-0.
The Eagles will next hit the court on Monday when they host the Sikeston Bulldogs. Game time is 6 pm.
