JHBB-Eagles take two from Blue Jays

The Oran Junior High School boys basketball teams picked up two wins tonight over the Oak Ridge
Blue Jays.  The seventh grade came out on top 47-29.  The eighth grade team avenged last year's 51-15 loss with a 57-34 win.

In game one, the Eagles jumped out to a 12-6 first quarter lead but led by only two at the half, 22-20.

After the intermission, Oran appeared revitalized as they out-scored the Jays 18-4 to lead 40-24 heading into the final quarter on their way to the 18 point victory.

Ty Johnson equaled Oak Ridge's point output with 29 of his own.  His total included 3 three-pointers.

Kaleb Gosche and Kaden Hargrove each contributed six, Drew Smith had 4 and Dane Shands chipped in 2.

Oran was 2 of 3 from the line for 67%.  They improved their record to 7-2.

In the night cap, the Eagles once again double up the visitors after one quarter, this time 14-7.

In the second period, Oak Ridge came roaring back, scoring 7 straight points to tie the game at 14 about a minute and a half in.  An Oran time-out stemmed the tide and the Eagles regained the momentum and was on top 27-16 with 1:44 to go when the Jays called time.  When the half-time horn sounded, the Eagles led 31-18.

The home team was never threatened in the second half as they out scored Oak Ridge 13-11 in the third and 13-5 in the final period and won by 23.

Todd Priggel led a trio of double-digit scorers with 19, including one from beyond the arc. Tyson Goodale added 15 and Landon Stanberry had 13.  He too, had a trey.

Jakob Findley scored 6.  Gabe Fox and Tristen Schlosser each hit for 2 points.

Oran was only 1 for 5 on free throws for a disappointing 20%.  They upped their record to 9-0.

The Eagles will next hit the court on Monday when they host the Sikeston Bulldogs.  Game time is 6 pm.

Once again, thank you Michael Stevens for the photos.
