Eagles wipe out Wildcats

The Oran High School boys varsity basketball team celebrated the 2016 Homecoming in a big way last night with a dominant 79-36 win over the Leopold Wildcats.  There was no junior varsity game.

The Eagles started out hot, in particular Garrison Mangels.  Mangels hit 8 straight points to open the game, before Leopold's first time out with 5:48 left in the opening period.  The Wildcats took their second time out with 3:10 left in the first and they were down 18-1.  Oran ended the quarter up 25-5.

The lead was 47-16 at the half as the Eagles substituted liberally and did not press after the first quarter.

It was more of the same in the second half as Oran outscored Leopold 32-20 and the fourth quarter saw a running clock.

Layne Johnson and Jacob Shoemaker each scored 20 to lead the Eagles.  Johnson hit 6 of 6 from the line, while Shoemaker had a trey and was 5 out of 5 at the charity stripe.  Mangels added 16.

Max Priggel had 8, Preston Hahn chipped in 5, including a three-pointer.  Luke Barnes also scored 5.  Blake Schlitt contributed 3 and Drew Reischman had a bucket.

Wyatt Kinney played but was held scoreless.

Oran hit 17 of 22 from the line for 77%.

They improved to 12-8 and will be back in action on Tuesday as they will host Chaffee.  The jv tip-off is scheduled for 6 pm.
