Eagles fall at home

The Oran High School boys basketball teams played their final home games of the season last night.  The results were not what they had hoped for.  The junior varsity lost to conference foe Scott County Central 54-31 and the varsity dropped an 86-63 decision.

Both teams fell behind big in the first quarter.

The older Eagles opened Senior Night on the wrong end of a 26-3 score after one.

After the initial period, however, Oran played the Braves even.

The Eagles were able to cut the margin to 17 late in the fourth period but Scott Central went on an 8-2 run over the last 2:15 for the final 23 point margin.

Max Priggel led Oran with 16, including two baskets from beyond the arc.  Layne Johnson scored 13.  Cole Priggel, in his first appearance after suffering a foot injury, added 10.

Jacob Shoemaker chipped in 8, while Garrison Mangels and Blake Schlitt had 6 apiece.  Preston Hahn had 4.

Luke Barnes, Wyatt Kinney and Drew Reischman saw action but did not score.

The Eagles were 9 of 12 from the line for 75%.

Junior Varsity

In the opener, Drew Reischman scored Oran's first four points.  Unfortunately, those two field goal occurred in two different quarters.

The Eagles trailed 16-2 after one and 30-11 at the break.  They too, ended up losing by 23.

Reischman topped Oran with 10 points.

Peyton McVay had 6 points.  William Kluesner added 5.  Bradley Brooks had 4, while Ben Fox chipped in 3.  Joey Phillips had a bucket and Denver Elfrink had a free throw.

Avery Mitchem, Calen Read and Jon (Downtown) Shipley played but did not break into the scoring column.

Oran was 9 out of 16 at the charity stripe for 56 %.

The jv is now 6-10 overall and finish 3-3 in the S-MC.  The varsity is 13-12 and conclude 4-3 in league play.

The final regular season game is Tuesday at 6 pm, when the Eagles travel to Advance to take on the Hornets.
