The older girls, who celebrated senior night, fell behind out of the gate. They were down 7-0 before finally scoring with 5:35 remaining in the first. The Indian expanded the lead back to seven, 9-2 at the 3:45 mark. From there, however, the Eagles went on a 10-0 run to close out the quarter up 12-9.
St. Vincent was not done. They scored four straight points during the first 17 seconds of period two to take a 13-12 lead. Oran then scored 8 of the next 10 points to regain the lead 20-15 with 4:51 before the half. With 2:27 left, the score was tied at 22. The Eagles went a a 6-1 run before the buzzer to take a 28-23 lead into the locker room.
Once again the Indians controlled the early part of the quarter, scoring 7 straight to open the 3rd. They led 30-28 3:39 seconds into the period. And, once again, Oran responded. This time the Eagles went on an 11-3 run to close out the quarter, taking a 41-31 lead into the fourth.
Over the last eight minutes, Oran was able to limit St. Vincent to only 6 points as the Eagles went on to claim the 13 point win.
Head Coach Ethan Evans told the blog this morning, "It was good to get a win for the seniors during their last home game. We turned the ball over way too much in the 1st half but finally got into a rhythm during the 2nd half."
Brianna Stause led the victors with 15 points. She hit 3 from beyond the arc, all of which were in the third quarter when Oran was able to build a lead. She also had a team-high 4 assists. Jessie Long recorded a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds. She hit 8 of those during the first half while the game was still in question. Leah Cauble had 12 points.
Ashlyn McIntosh had 9 points, including a trey. Tatum May added 3 while Claire Ramsey chipped in 2.
Shiloh Kirn, Hannah Scherer and Erin Schlitt played but did not score.
The Eagles hit 41% from inside the arc (18-44) and 25% from beyond (4-16). From the line they were 6 of 12 for 50%. Oran also committed 16 turnovers on the night which allowed the Indians to keep things close.
Junior Varsity
In the opener, the younger Eagles jumped out to an 8-2 lead halfway through the first and led 8-4 after one. The lead was down to 10-8 at the half, however.
The game was nip and tuck over the final two quarters.
After the third frame the two teams were tied at 19.
Oran trailed most of the final period, before taking a 30-27 lead with 1:06 remaining on a Claire Ramsey "and one". The Indians hit a 3 point shot with 18 seconds remaining to take a 33-32 lead and the Eagles were not able to score in the waning seconds.
Coach Evans said, "I felt like we just got outworked in the jv game. We are much better than we played in this game but they just wanted it more."
MacKenzie Graviett scored 12 to lead all scorers, 10 of those coming in the second half.
Katelyn Streeter totaled 7. Madison Ramsey hit two from distance for her 6 points, while Claire Ramsey added 5. Madison Graviett finished with 2.
Megan Henson played but did not score.
Oran was 4 of 5 from the line for 80%.
The junior varsity is now 10-4. They will close out their season on Thursday at Scott City.
The varsity improved to 20-3. They are scheduled to play at Greenville this evening at 6 pm, weather permitting. Thursday is also the final regular season game for the older girls, before their district tournament begins next week.
