Eagles drubbed by East Prairie

The Oran High School baseball team fell to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the Scott-Miss conference after a 14-1 pounding by the visiting East Prairie Eagles in a game shortened to 6 innings because of the mercy-rule.

The first three batters scored for East Prairie after a hit batsman, and two errors were followed by a double and a run scoring ground out.

Two more runs crossed in the second on pair of singles, a walk and a two-out error.

Meanwhile, Oran wasted a one-out second inning double by Blake Overfield as the next two were called out on strikes.

In the third, the Eagles tried to mount a rally but came up empty.  Austin Eftink singled to lead off, one out later Cole Priggel walked, then Drew Reischman drew a two out walk to load the bases, but ball four went to the screen.  The lead runner tried to score on the wild pitch but was tagged out at home to end the inning.

The fourth saw the visitors plate a run after a lead-off single, a throwing error, a sac bunt and an RBI double.  The score was now 6-0.

In the fifth inning 3 more runs crossed the plate.  East Prairie used 2 hits, 2 errors, a fielder's choice and a sacrifice bunt to increase it's lead to 9-0.

East Prairie scored 5 in the 6th on 2 doubles, 2 singles, a walk and 2 more errors.

Oran scored their lone run in the bottom of the 6th on a one-out line drive home run by Clay Sauceda.

Preston Hahn took the loss, falling to 1-2. He went 5.2 innings. All 14 runs were charged to him but, only 4 were earned.  He allowed 12 hits, he walked 2 and hit 2.  He struck out 4. Overfield got the final out after allowing a base hit.

At the plate, Overfield had 2 hits, Eftink and Sauceda had the others as the Eagles only managed four on the day.

Oran will be back in action this afternoon when they host district foe Advance at 4:30.
