Eagles coast to district tourney win

The Oran High School baseball team rolled to a 19-2 opening round victory over the #7 seed Oak Ridge Blue Jays in mercy-rule shortened game at Westwood Park in Advance in the Class 1 District 2 tournament.

The #2 seed Eagles scored 7 in the first inning, 10 in the second and then 2 in the third.  The Jays picked up singe tallies in the fourth and fifth innings.

Oran got 4 RBI from Tanner McVay.  He was 1-1 and hit by a pitch 3 times.  Layne Johnson drove in 3 with a 2-2 performance, including a double and he was hit twice. Preston Hahn was 2-4 and drove in 2, while Drew Rieschman was 1-2 , walked twice and drove in a couple.

Hahn got the start on the mound and improved to 6-2 on the season. He pitched three scoreless innings.  He gave up 3 hits and 3 walks and struck out 2.  Drew Mitchem went the next inning and a third.  He allowed 2 runs, both earned, on 2 hits, 3 walks, he hit 1 and struck out 1.  Jacob Shoemaker, making his varsity debut, retired the two batters he faced.

The Eagles improved to 13-8 and will face Leopold, the number 6 seed on Monday at 6:30 pm.  The Wildcats upset the #3 Zalma Bulldogs 6-1.
