A fantastic pitching performance and some timely hits helped the Oran High School baseball team open it's fall season with a 5-0 victory over the South Pemiscot Bulldogs at home this afternoon.
Layne Johnson pitched a complete game one-hitter to pick up the win, he struck out 12 and walked only two on 91 pitches.
The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the third inning.
Denver Elfrink led off the frame with a ringing double to right center. Freshman Todd Priggel hammered the first pitch he saw hitting a mammoth home run over the right field fence to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. That would be enough, but it wasn't all. Two outs later Johnson picked up his second single of the game. After stealing second, he jogged home on Cole Priggels' triple to right center. Priggel would cross after an errant throw by the catcher to make it 4-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, Drew Reischman went yard, a solo shot to left to set the final score.
Oran will be back in action tomorrow for a double header at Gideon. They face the hosts at 11 am and Cooter at 1 pm.
