The Oran Junior High School girls basketball teams split their contests last night at Woodland High School. The 7th grade won in comeback fashion 13-11. The 8th grade was unable to make up a half time deficit and lost 49-25.
The younger Eagles trailed 6-4 after one, but outscored the Cardinals 9-5 in the second to pick up the 2 point win.
Hannah Boshell and Grace Davis each scored 4. Rylee Boshell had 3 and Hope Woodfin added 2.
Oran was 1-4 (25%) at the free throw line.
Coach Ethan Evans said, "We got off to a slow start but picked it up in the 2nd quarter. The defense and rebounding was outstanding. I am very proud of their effort."
The 8th grade team found itself down 32-7 at the half. They were able to cut the margin by 1 in the second half.
Mallory Lowes had 15 to lead the Eagles, including 7 of 10 from the line. Grace Davis added 4 points. Hannah Boshell, Alyssa Spane and Woodfin each chipped in 2.
They were 7 of 13 from the charity stripe for 54%.
"We dug ourselves a hole in the first half that we couldn't come back from. I was pleased that the girls didn't give up and actually out scored them in the 2nd half," said Evans.
The seventh grade is now 5-0, the eighth is now 3-3.
The teams will be back in action on Monday at 6 pm, when they host girls basketball newcomer, Bloomfield.
