The Oran Junior High School girls basketball teams picked up two wins last night at East Prairie. The 7th grade won 16-6 while the 8th grade prevailed 31-20.
In the opener, our Eagles jumped out 11-4 after one enroute to the 10 point 2 quarter victory.
Grace Davis led all scorers with 5, including 3-6 from the line. The Boshells, Hannah and Rylee, each added 4. Emma Priggel had a field goal and Hope Woodfin chipped in a free throw.
Oran was only 4 of 17 from the line for 24%.
Head Coach Ethan Evans said, "The girls got off to a fast start and held East Prairie down defensively. We didn't shoot very well from the free throw line but we did a good job of taking the ball to the rim."
In the night cap, the Eagles blew a close game open in the 3rd quarter and cruised to the 11 point win.
Oran entered the intermission up 12-11 but out scored East Prairie 15-3 in the third.
Mallory Lowes was the top point scorer with 11 including a 3 pointer. Alyssa Spane scored 6, all in that crucial third period. Hannah Boshell and Hope Woodfin both added 4. Boshell scored all of her points in the third, also. Rylee Boshell had 2 points.
The Eagles were 2-5 at the charity stripe for 40%.
Evans said, "After a slow start the girls really picked it up in the 3rd quarter, probably the best quarter they played all year. Everyone stepped up and contributed for a great team win."
The 7th grade is now 4-0 overall and 4-0 in Scott-Mississippi Conference play. The 8th grade stands at 3-2 and 2-2.
They will be back in action tonight when they travel to Woodland to take on the Cardinals at 6 pm.
