Basketball wins big at home

The Oran Junior High School girls basketball teams picked up easy wins last night against the Bloomfield Wildcats, who are in their first year of girls hoops.

The seventh grade won 22-1 and the eighth 33-6.

In the opener, the Eagles led 12-0 after one quarter.  The Wildcats hit a free throw at the 3:56 mark of quarter two.  Oran scored the final 10 points of the game.

Rylee Boshell and Grace Davis each scored 6.  Hope Woodfin added 4, while Hannah Boshell, Emma Priggel and Laney Shy chipped in 2 apiece.

The Eagles did not have any free throw attempts.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "The girls did a good job of spreading the ball around and getting everyone involved in the game offensively. Defensively we held them to 1 point so they did an awesome job there."

The second game was similar to the first.

Oran jumped out 11-2 after one and 19-4 at the break and cruised to the 27 point victory.

Alyssa Spane led all scorers with 8, including 2-2 from the line.  Mallory Lowes had 7 and Rylee Boshell added 6.  Hope Woodfin and Grace Davis each had 4 while Hannah Boshell and Chloe Prindle both chipped in 2.

The Eagles were 3-4 from the line for 75%.

Evans said, "We had a good 1st half and we once again got lots of people involved in the scoring column.  I thought we had a chance to really blow the game open in the 3rd quarter but the offense stumbled.  Overall the defensive effort was great."

The younger team is now 6-0 and the older is 4-3.

Both squads will be back in action this evening when they travel to take on conference foe Scott County Central.  First tip is scheduled for 6 pm.
