It took a while for the Oran High School baseball team's offense to start clicking, but when the dust settled it was a 13-0 five inning mercy rule victory to improve their record to 5-0 after the road victory today at Leopold.
It was a pitcher's duel through the first two innings as neither team could score.
When the Eagles did score in the top of the third, a lone tally, it was an unearned run.
Oran would plate two more in the fourth and only one of those was earned. It came after a triple by Todd Priggel and an RBI single by Drew Mitchem.
The Eagles finally got clicking in the fifth inning. They sent 14 to the plate and 10 crossed against three Leopold pitchers.
Cole Priggel started things off with a triple to center. One out later Austin Eftink walked. Denver Elfrink drove home Priggel and moved Eftink to third with a double.
After a pitching change, Todd Priggel drove both base runners home with a single to right center. Mitchem picked up his third single of the day and that was followed by an RBI single from Jacob Shoemaker. Drew Rieschman singled for the fourth time to load the bases and then with two outs Cole Priggel walked to force in a run, making the score 8-0. Clay Sauceda was hit by a pitch, 9-0.
After another pitching change, Eftink walked for the second time in the inning and the score had reached 10-0. Elfrink would then hit the biggest blow of the day, a bases clearing triple down the right field line to set the final score.
On the mound, it was a group effort. Todd Priggel got the start, he went the first inning striking out 1. Layne Johnson went the second inning, he allowed 1 hit and struck out 3. Reischman pitched the third and struck out 2. Sauceda pitched the final two innings to pick up the win for his second victory of the season. He also struck out 2.
Elfrink had 4 RBI on the day, Todd Priggel added 3. Reischman was 4 for 4 and Mitchem was 3 for 3.
Oran will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 when they host traditional powerhouse Bernie.
