Eagles defeat Hawks

The Oran Junior High School girls basketball teams picked up wins last night against visiting conference foe Kelly.  The Eagles won the 7th grade game 12-7 and the 8th, 45-19.

Coach Ethan Evans said about game one, "We got off to a slow start and did just enough to squeak by for the victory. The defensive effort was there but we missed way too many easy shots."

Hannah Boshell had 4 points, including 2-2 from the line.  Emma Priggel scored 3 point (1-2 on free throws).  Rylee Boshell and Hope Woodfin added 2 and Grace Davis chipped in a point.

Oran was only 4 of 11 from the charity stripe for 36%.

Of the night cap, Evans said, "Our defense was not very good in the 1st half but picked it up significantly in the 2nd half. Offensively I thought we did a pretty decent job but the defense needs to pick it up going forward."

Mallory Lowes outscored the Hawks on her own by dropping in 21.  She was 5 of 7 from the line.  Allysa Spane added 7 while Hannah Boshell and Woodfin chipped in 6.  Davis had 4 and Rylee Boshell tallied 2.

Skyler Ham, Priggel, Chloe Prindle and Laney Shy all saw action but did not break into the scoring column.

The 7th grade is now 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the Scott-Miss.  The 8th stands 6-3 and 4-2, respectively.

The teams will be back in action this evening when they host the Oak Ridge Blue Jays. The 'Jays are in their inaugural season of girls basketball.  Tonight's game, which starts at 6, will be the final regular season home contest.  The Eagles will host the conference tournament the week of October 17.
