Eagles sweep home opener

The Oran Junior High School boys basketball teams picked up two conference wins last night against visiting Scott County Central.  The Eagles won the 7th grade game 54-22 and the 8th grade game 38-27.

Head Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "The 7th grade played very hard and unselfish.  They have a few things to clean up that we discussed in the locker room and hopefully we will see those improvements.  I was very happy with their efforts."

Oran led 15-4 after one and 27-8 at the intermission on their way to the 32 point victory.

Samuel Shoemaker was the top scorer win 18 in the game.  Seth Cauble and Kolton Payne each added 9.  Robby Menz had 7, including a trey, while Nick Romas chipped in 6.  Landon Cochran scored 4 and Nic Massey hit one of two free throws for his tally.

Landon Avery, Ryan Burke, Parker Diebold and Camden Triplett played but did not score.

The Eagles were 5 of 16 from the line for 31%.

They improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the Scott-Mississippi Conference.

The eighth grade game saw Oran take a 27-8 half-time lead, but the Braves outscored the Eagles in the 2nd half, 19-11.  Nevertheless, Oran held on for the 11 point win.

Coach Shoemaker said, "The 8th grade didn’t come out mentally focused and played very sloppy.  They still came away with a win but hopefully they will learn and come out more mentally prepared the next time."

Ty Johnson led all scorers with 15, while Dane Shands had 14, including 2 bombs from beyond the arc. He was also 2-2 from the line.  Kaleb Gosche put in 7 and Waylon Shaffer added a field goal.

Gage Phillips, Drew Smith and Keaton Stepp play but did not score.

As a team, they hit 50%  (4-8) of their free throws.

The older team is now 1-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.

The Eagles will be back in action this evening at 6 pm when they travel to Scott City for a league match up.

NOTE:  Friday's game with Zalma has been canceled.
