The Oran Junior High School boys basketball teams split their road match up last night against conference foe Scott City. The 7th grade fell 36-27 and the 8th grade won 46-21.
In the opener, the Eagles appeared to be cruising. They led 17-9 after the first quarter. The Rams regrouped however, and out scored Oran 27-10 the rest of the way.
Seth Cauble led the Eagles with 10 points, including 4-4 from the line. Samuel Shoemaker had 7, Nick Romas added 4, while Kolten Payne chipped in 3. Landon Cochran had a field goal and Quentin Senciboy made a free throw.
Robby Menz played but did not score.
Oran was 9 of 16 from the line for 56%.
Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "We got off to a fast start but then couldn't buy a basket the rest of the game. We fell behind and then played a little rushed trying to catch up."
In the eighth grade game, the Eagles grabbed the lead early and never trailed.
Oran was on top 9-4 after one and expanded the lead every quarter, on their way to the 25 point victory.
Ty Johnson topped all scorers with 20, including 2 treys. Drew Smith also reached double-digit scoring with 10.
Dane Shands added 6 points, Kaleb Gosche had 5, Waylon Shaffer 4 and Cauble hit a free throw.
Gage Phillips, Keaton Stepp, Shoemaker and Romas got playing time but did not score.
The Eagles were 10 for 19 at the charity stripe for 53%.
Coach Shoemaker told the blog, "Tonight we came out with more focus and played a very good game. We shared the basketball and played very well together."
The 7th grade is now 2-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the 8th grade is also 2-1 in all games and 2-0 in the league.
They will be back in action on Tuesday at Bell City. Game time is 6 pm.
