In the opener, the third-seeded 7th grade team faced off against the #2 seed Kelly Hawks, a team they had lost to earlier this year, 48-13.
Head Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "I thought the 7th grade played a very good half and then in the second we got behind and took some chances to try and get back in the game. I am very proud of the way the 7th grade played the entire season. They really played well together as a team."
Samuel Shoemaker finished with 8 points, Nick Romas had 7, including 3 of 4 from the line. Robbie Menz and Kolten Payne added 5 apiece and Seth Cauble chipped in 4. Landon Cochran also got playing time.
Oran was 3 of 6 from the charity stripe for 50 %. They finished 10-4 on the year.
As is so often the case, it is very difficult to be a team three times in one year, and that proved itself last night as the 8th grade Eagles, the #2 seed, was upset by #3 seed Scott City.
Oran had defeated the Rams twice earlier, by scores of 46-21 and 50-29, but last night, after the Eagles jumped out to a 13-6 first quarter lead, Scott City roared back during a 12-2 second frame for an 18-15 lead. They would hold on for the 2-point victory.
Coach Shoemaker commented, "The 8th grade played hard but they couldn't throw it in the ocean. If you hold a team to 30 points most nights that will get you a win. We had beaten Scott City twice this year and each time we hurt them with the press. Last night we couldn't score enough to set up the press which hurt us."
Ty Johnson had 19, including 2 treys. Dane Shands added 5. Shands was 3 of 3 from the free throw line. Kaleb Gosche had 4 points. Waylon Shaffer, Drew Smith and Keaton Stepp played but did not score.
The team was only 4 of 9 at the line for 44%. They too finished with a 10-4 record.
Shoemaker summed it up, " I am very pleased with the season both teams had and I challenged them to improve before next year."
