The Oran High School baseball team lost 2-1 in 8 innings yesterday at Kelly.
The Eagles scored first. Layne Johnson worked a one-out base on balls, moved to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on Cole Priggel's infield single.
Oran would get only 1 more hit and 3 more baserunners the rest of the way. None would make it to second base.
Drew Reischman, who got the start on the mound, had to work out of trouble in the bottom of the first. A leadoff hit batsman a single had two on and none out. Luke Patterson, making his varsity debut at third, fielded a ground ball, stepped on the bag and threw to first to complete the double-play. The next batter flew out.
Kelly got an unearned run in the third to tie the score.
A leadoff single was followed by a one-out hit batter. The runner at second took off for third, the base was not covered and the throw went into left field allowing the run to cross.
Kelly singled to open their half of the 7th. Coach Joe Bicking brought in Layne Johnson in relief of Reischman. Johnson retired the next three to send the game to extra-innings.
Oran went 1-2-3 in the top of the 8th, but the Hawks used two walks sandwiched around a single to load the bases. After a ground ball to Priggel who threw home to get the force. The Hawks hit a line drive base hit to left to win the game.
Austin Eftink had the only other hit for the Eagles who fell to 10-3.
Reischman went 6 innings, he gave up 1 unearned run on 5 hits. He walked 1, hit 2 and struck out 4.
Johnson picked up the loss. He went 1 1/3, allowed the 1 earned run, on 2 hits while walking 2 and striking out 2. He is now 5-2 on the year.
Oran will host Chaffee on Saturday at 4 pm.
