The Oran Junior High School boys basketball teams both improved to 2-0 on the season. The seventh-grade won 44-37 while the eighth-grade picked up a 53-32 victory.
Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "The seventh-grade played a good game. We battled through some foul trouble and did a good job of hitting free throws. We also blocked out well and moved the basketball very well on offense."
The Eagles led 12-8 after one but trailed 17-15 at the half.
The score was tied at 25 with under five seconds remaining in the third when Kolten Payne drained a three to give Oran the lead and they never trailed again.
Robbie Menz hit four free throws with less than a minute remaining in the game to help seal the win.
Payne led the team with 14 points, including three treys. Menz and Camdyn Triblett had 10 apiece. Menz had two from long range and was 4-4 from the line. Triblett had a double-double as he grabbed 13 rebounds.
Luke Peterson added six and Nic Massey chipped in four.
As a team, they hit 6 of 7 from the charity stripe for 86%.
For the eighth-grade, Coach Shoemaker had talked about the need to play smarter and more under control after their season-opening win at Scott County Central. The improvement was evident last night as the Eagles led 18-5 after the first period and went on to a 21 point romp.
Coach Shoemaker said, "We played a much smarter game tonight and played more under control. We shot 21 out of 41 from 2 point land (51%) and 2 out of 6 from three (33%).
Samuel Shoemaker recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. He also nabbed seven steals. Nick Romas hit for 11 points, including a pair of treys and Seth Cauble scored 10.
Quentin Senciboy had seven points, Chris Collins six, Diesel Cato four and Dalton Scherer two.
The older team hit only 5 of 14 attempts at the line for 36%.
The boys will be back in action Wednesday evening when they host non-conference rival Bell City at 6 pm.
