The Oran Junior High boys basketball teams closed out their regular seasons last night with a pair of home victories over the Delta Bobcats. The eighth-grade played first and won a nip and tuck affair by a final score of 53-45. The seventh-grade followed, playing only two-quarters. They won 24-12.
The eighth-grade contest was tied at 14 after one period and Oran managed a 29-25 lead at the break. The lead was down to a single-point, 37-36 heading into the final six minutes. The Eagles were able to stretch the margin up to as much as nine and finished with the eight-point win.
Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "I thought the 8th grade played good against a quality team. We shot the ball well last night and were able to make some adjustments throughout the game with how and when we pressured the ball and I think this give them some trouble. Nick Romas played with good energy last night and came up with some effort offensive rebounds that he converted into points. It was a nice win."
Nick Romas had a season-high 21 to help the 8th-graders improve to 4-2 and 10-2. He hit a trey as part of his point total. Samuel Shoemaker had 14 and Quentin Senciboy had 10. "Q" hit 4 of 4 from the line.
Seth Cauble had four points and Diesel Cato and Chris Collins finished with two apiece.
As a team, they hit 6 of 11 from the charity stripe for 55%.
They ended up 4-2 and 10-2.
The older team will start the Scott-Mississippi conference tournament at home as the #3 seed on Saturday at 11 am when they face 6th-seeded Scott County Central. During the regular season, Oran won the match-up 46-41. It was the first game of the year.
The seventh-grade held a 15-7 lead after one and had no problems as they doubled-up Delta with the 12 point win.
Coach Shoemaker told the blog, "The 7th grade played two quarters and everyone got to play. They did a nice job of adjusting when to trap the ball on the press and disrupted their rhythm. They did a good job of having an inside out attack on the offensive end."
Camdyn Triblett ended up 10 to lead all scorers.
Nic Massey had six points and hit both of his free throw attempts. Kolten Payne added three. Robby Menz and Luke Peterson both chipped in two while Parker Diebold had a single tally.
From the line, the young team was 4 of 5 for 80%. They finished their conference season with an unblemished 6-0 mark and they were 10-2, overall.
They received a first-round bye along with the number-two seed and will face the winner of Saturday's Scott City versus Kelly contest on Monday at 5:15 pm.
