The Oran 8th-grade boys basketball team opened the Scott-Mississippi conference tournament with an easy 40 point victory over the Scott County Central Braves, Saturday morning.
The Eagles jumped out to a 9-0 lead before a Central timeout at the 4:15 mark of quarter number one. The Braves cut the deficit to 9-6 on back-to-back trey before the host went on another run. it was 16-6 with 3:08 left before timeout number two. Oran led 37-8 after one and 58-15 at the half.
Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "We shot the ball the best we have all year. We also did a very good job of passing the basketball. We had our best offensive outing of the year. Hopefully, we can continue to shoot this well the rest of the year. I was very proud of the team."
Samuel Shoemaker led all scorers with 17. Nick Romas and Quentin Senciboy had 13 each. Both also hit a three-pointer. Diesel Cato contributed 10 and he hit two treys.
Chris Collins scored seven. Seth Cauble had four as did Landon Cochran. JKwon Davis rounded out the scoring with two points.
They hit 2 of 5 from the line for 40%.
The 8th grade is now 11-2 and they will face East Prairie on Monday at 7:45. The 7th grade will face Scott City at 5:15.
