Volleyball splits with Wildcats

The Oran High School volleyball teams split in their match last night against the visiting Leopold Wildcats.  The junior varsity picked up their first victory of the season in straight sets 26-24 and 25-13.  The younger squad is now 1-3.

Coach Wibbenmeyer said, "they did a really good and were using the skills they learned in practice"

In the nightcap, Kennedi McVay had four digs and three aces.  Kaylee Payne had three kills and two digs.  Katelyn Streeter had nine digs and two kills.  Heather Gosche had two blocks and a dig.  Sam Welter had two assists and a dig.  Cassie Cochran recorded six digs, while Savannah Below added a block.

The coach commented, "The varsity didn’t have their heads fully in the game at the beginning. Leopold is always good and scrappy. This year they were also very fast on offense and our defense couldn’t keep up. Our blockers weren’t being fast and it was making it harder on our back row. We needed to keep talking the whole game and not getting down on ourselves after making one mistake."

The Eagles are now 3-7 and will host their third home match of the week on Thursday when they host conference rival New Madrid County Central at 6 pm.
