Girls advance in state tourney

The Oran High School girls basketball team scored the first 13 points in last night's sectional contest against the Valle Catholic Lady Warriors in Jackson.  The Lady Eagles led 28-4 after one period and waltzed to a 75-25 victory.

Leah Cauble was the evening's top scorer with 39.  She hit one from beyond the arc and was 4 of 4 from the line. Katie Webb had a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards.  She also had a team-high seven steals  Kaylee Payne had 12 points, that included two-threes. She had seven rebounds and led the team with four assists.

Jessie Long scored seven, had six rebounds and nabbed six steals.  Hope Woodfin made a trey and had three blocked shots off the bench.

The girls were 25-41 for 61% from two-point range, 4 of 18 from three for 22% and 13 out of 19 from the line for 68%.

The Lady Eagles are now 22-6 and will play Thayer (27-3) at Poplar Bluff on Saturday at 2:45 pm.  The Lady Bobcats defeated Hayti last night, 64-21.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "I thought our press really caused them problems in the early going. We were hoping we could come out and dictate the tempo right off the bat. It was a nice win but we are focused now on Saturday."
