Lady Eagles pummel Puxico advance to district final

The Oran High School girls basketball team led from start to finish in last night's district quarterfinal contest in Chaffee against the fourth-seeded Puxico Lady Indians, 95-15.

The top-seeded Lady Eagles and Puxico have now met in the postseason three years in a row, the previous two were in the sectional round. Oran has won all three.

The Eagles were up 28-5 after one and 58-9 at the intermission.  Oran tossed a 26-0 shutout in the third and won the game by 80.

Puxico's Sophia Hancock scored all but two of the Indian's points (13).  The final two came on free throws late, after Hancock had left the floor.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "Our goal going into the game was to hold Hancock under 20 so I was pleased with our defensive effort. We took control from the opening tip and knocked down some open shots. It was a solid effort all the way around."

Leah Cauble outscored Puxico on her own.  She knocked down 43, she hit 7-14 from beyond the arc and 4 of 5 from the line.  She now has a total of 3694 career points and is 31 points away from setting a new state record.

Kaylee Payne finished with 15 points.  She was 3 of 6 from three-point land, grabbed seven rebounds and had a team-high six assists.

Heather Gosche had eight points off the bench and Hope Woodfin added seven, including a trey.  Jessie Long had six points, seven boards and a team-high six steals.  Katelyn Streeter and Taylor Lowes both scored five, each had a three-pointer.  Rylee Boshell and Katie Webb each scored three.  Boshell hit her's from long distance.

The girls made 22 of 34 from inside the arch for 65% and 14-39 from beyond for 36%.  At the line, they were 9 of 12 for 75%.

They improved their record to 20-6 and will look to claim a sixth-straight district crown on Friday at 6 pm when they face the third-seeded St. Vincent Lady Indians, who were upset winners over #2 Chaffee last night, 41-34.  Oran and St. Vincent met earlier this month, The Lady Eagles prevailed on the road, 77-28.
