The Oran High School boys basketball team came out on fire last night in it's district quarterfinal matchup against fourth-seeded Chaffee in a game at Chaffee.
The top-seeded Eagles led 31-8 after one, but the Red Devils had sliced the margin from 23 to 19 at the break 49-30. With just over five minutes remaining in the third, the lead was down to 13, 51-38. Oran regrouped after that though and slowly re-built its lead to pick up a 30 point victory, 83-53.
Head Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "I thought we were able to get off to a great start and rhythm. We then picked up some fouls and had to back off our defensive pressure. Chaffee to their credit made a run, as all well-coached teams do, but we were able to answer that run with one of our own."
Oran only had five players in the scorebook. Jacob Shoemaker led all scorers with 30. He hit six treys on the night and led the team with six rebounds. He had 14 points and four threes during the pivotal first period. Tyson Goodale had 18 with many coming on putbacks at the rim. Langdon Scheeter had 15 points and a trey. Ty Johnson finished with 12 and had a trey of his own.
Todd Priggel ended up with eight points to round out the scoring and dished out a team-high nine assists..
From the line, the boys were 11 of 17 for 65% they were 24 of 39 for 69% from inside the arc and 8 of 14 from beyond for 57%. The defense forced 20 turnovers. The rebound totals were basically even with Oran having 29 and Chaffee 28. The Eagles committed 13 turnovers.
The win upped their mark to 26-1.
They will face the second-seeded Oak Ridge Blue Jays on Friday at Chaffee in the district title game, following the girls contest. The boys game is scheduled to begin at 7:15. These two teams met up one month ago in Oran. The Eagles came out with an exciting 65-62 victory.
