Lady Eagles roll, Cauble breaks mar.

The Oran High School girls basketball team entered a jam-packed Chaffee High School gym last night looking to claim a sixth-straight district championship.  The top-seeded Lady Eagles faced off against the third-seeded Lady Indians from St. Vincent of Perryville, a team they had defeated 77-28 about two weeks earlier and picked up an 82-28 win.

This time Oran held St. Vincent scoreless for over six minutes to start the game and the Lady Eagles were up 21-0.  After one it was 25-4 and the only drama remaining was when Leah Cauble would reach the 31 points she needed to break the all-time Missouri girls scoring record.

Cauble hit a layup at the 5:43 mark of the third for her 3,275th career point and putting her name in the record book and it made the score 55-9.  Cauble finished with 40.  She had four from beyond the arc and had a team-high nine rebounds.  Not only did she set a career point record last night but she went over 1,000 for the season.  It's the second time she has accomplished this feat-something no one else has done.

Kaylee Payne dropped in 22.  She had two treys and seven rebounds.  She also added seven steals and seven assists, both tops on the team.  Payne is now 52 points away from the 1,000 career point plateau.  Jessie Long had 10 points and 5 steals.

Taylor Lowes had seven points off the bench, including a trey.  Madison Ramsey hit a three-pointer to round out the scoring.  Claire Ramsey returned last night after missing a month due to a foot injury.  She did not score but did have three rebounds.

The girls made 19 of 31 from inside the arch for 61% and 8 out of 31 for 26% from beyond.  At the line, they hit 20 of 32 for 63%.

The Lady Eagles improved their record to 21-6.

They will face the Valle Catholic Lady Warriors (14-13) in the sectional round at Jackson, next Wednesday at 7:45 pm.  The two teams met up in last year's district tournament, Oran won 86-38.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "We jumped out on them early and really dictated the tempo of the game. It was an awesome accomplishment for Leah to get the scoring record. It was a great accomplishment for the seniors to win a 4th district championship. I’m very proud of this program."
