The Oran High School baseball team hosted the Campbell Camel on Friday and came away with a 4-0 victory.
Connor Kern pitched the three-hit shutout improving his record to 2-0-2. He struck out 10 and only walked one.
The Eagles only managed six hits of their own. Kolten Payne had two of them. Seth Cauble had the only extra-base hit, a double.
The win improved the squad’s record to 9-3.
Coach Joe Bickings said, “Going into this game I knew it would be a dogfight after talking to other coaches about Campbell. They are a team where most of their varsity players have been starting since they were freshmen. Campbell made a few mistakes in the field and we were able to capitalize on them to score our first two runs. We were able to add on some insurance runs later to take a 4-0 lead. Connor Kern looked extremely good on the mound and has probably been one of our top pitchers this fall. He has mainly been kind of a bullpen guy for us this fall and when he got the chance to start he took advantage of it.”
