Girls split at Kelly

The Oran Junior High School girls basketball teams traveled to Kelly last night.  The seventh-grade lost 24-10 and the eighth-grade was tested for the first time, picking up a close, six-point win 36-30.

Mari Fuemmeler scored six for the younger team and Olivia Grasso had four.

Coach Ethan Evans said, “I thought we played good defense the 1st half but had way too many turnovers and didn’t rebound well enough.”

The seventh-grade is now 2-3 in conference and 4-4 overall.

In the nightcap, the score was tied at 26 heading into the final period.  The Eagles outscored its hosts 10-6 to pick up the hard-fought victory, to improve to 6-0 and 9-0.

Evans said, We thought going in this would be a tough game and it was. We played well in spurts but have to stay out of foul trouble and be more consistent.”

Braylynn Morgan and Addie Nichols both scored 12.  Lilly Knotts put in eight and Molly Spane added four.  They were 10 0f 19 at the line for 53%.
