Junior high boys lose at Scott City

The Oran Junior High School boys basketball teams traveled to Scott City last night and lost both contests.  The seventh-grade fell 42-34 and the eighth, 36-10.

Roman Schlosser led the Eagles with 17 points and  Brison Winchester had 12.

Colin Shands had three and Giddeon Davis two.

They were 4-11 for 36% from the line, and are now 1-5.

Coach Joe  Bickings said, " The seventh-grade made a vast improvement over the last month.  After losing 14-50 the first time we played them to only losing 34-42 is very good.  After the game, we talked about a few mistakes we made that gave them wide-open shots under the basket that added up to more points than we lost by.  I thought Roman [Schlosser] and Brison [Winchester] were more aggressive getting to the rim and scoring and at times we matched up in our zone defense better than we have."

For the older boys, Brenden Campbell had four points, including a trey.  Nate Pobst, Elijah Shoemaker and Jon Tucker each added a field goal.

Coach Bickings said, "It was a tough game for us because we had good looks and we were taking good shots but they just wouldn't fall.  I think the shots not falling adjusted our attitude and effort in the 2nd half.  I mentioned to them at half that we were only down 7 points after not shooting very well in the 1st half.  In the 2nd half our defense let us down a little and it seemed like when they would shoot from the outside it would either go in or they would get an offensive rebound and put it back to take the wind out of us.  We have to find a way to continue to play the game hard no matter what the score."

They were 1-4 on free throw attempts and are 2-5.

The boys will host Oak Ridge on Thursday at 6 pm.
