Junior high boys split at Richland

The Oran Junior High School boys basketball teams traveled to Richland Thursday evening.  The seventh-grade lost 37-18.  The eighth-grade picked up a 40-34 overtime win.

In the opener, Brison Winchester led all scorers with 14.

Giddeon Davis and Shayden Knuckles each added a field goal.

They were 4 of 18 from the line for 22 percent. They are now 1-4 on the year.

Coach Joe Bickings said, "We tried to dribble through the press and not move as much. 7th grade played hard and better in the 2nd half but we still need to focus on playing good all 4 quarters."

In the nightcap, the Eagles were up by 10 after one but had to outscore the hosts 11-6 in the fourth to forge a 32-all game at the end of regulation despite going 0-4 from the line.  They won the extra frame 8-2 and made all four free-throw attempts.

Elijah Shoemaker had 18 for the Eagles including two treys.  Nate Pobst also reached double digits, with 13.

Brenden Campbell had five.  Cody Albritton and Drake Dannenmueller both hit a field goal.

The made 6 of 11 free throws for 54%.  Their record is now 2-4.

Bickings said, "We still continue to have at least one bad quarter and it tends to be the 3rd.  It was no different against Richland.  Looking back at the 3rd quarter we just missed a few shots that were falling in the 1st half and that turned into points for Richland."

The Eagles will host Advance on Monday at 6 pm.
