Seventh-grade boys win first

The Oran Junior High School boys basketball teams hosted the Kelly Hawks last night and seventh-grade Eagles picked up its initial victory of the season, 30-26.  The eighth-grade lost 41-26.

Roman Schlosser had 13 including a trey to lead the winners.

Giddeon Davis had eight and Brison Winchester added seven.

They were 7-19 from the line for 37% and improved their record to 1-1 in the Scott-Miss and 1-3 overall.

Coach Joe Bickings said of the first win, "...It felt good.  We were able to hit some open shots and also get in the lane to help create high percentage shots for us.  We did struggle a little playing with the lead at the end of the game but I don't think they have been in the situation that much.  The only way to learn how to handle that situation is with experience.  I hope we were able to learn from the mistakes we made at the end so that we don't do the same thing again later on in the season."

The eighth-grade was led by Nate Pobst's 14.

He was followed by Elijah Shoemaker, who had nine and Brenden Campbell's eight.  Campbell hit a pair of treys.

They were 3 of 8 from the charity stripe for 38%.

They are now 1-2 and 1-4.

Bickikings said, "[We] had one bad quarter and the was the 2nd quarter where we didn't score.  We lost that quarter by 12 and lost the game by 15.  We have struggled to play a full game ever since we won against Scott County.  I was pleased with the way we played in the 2nd half and didn't quit.  The 2nd half has been a problem for us the last few games as we have lost leads.  I challenged the kids at half time to have a good 2nd half and they responded well."
