Lady Eagles pounce on Panthers

The Oran High School girls varsity basketball team traveled to Meadow Heights High school and defeated the district rival lady Panthers last night by a score of 55-31.  There was no junior varsity game. Oran led 20-6 after one and 41-15 at the half.

The second half was played with a running clock because sleet started falling at halftime.

Traci Hency led the Eagles with 12 points.

Mallory Lowes had nine points, including a trey.  Katie Webb had eight points and a team-high five rebounds.  Kaylee Payne and Hope Woodfin had six apiece.  They both hit a trey.  Payne had a team-high four assists and five steals. Grace Davis finished with five and Heather Gosche scored four.  Taylor Lowes hit a trey for her points and Haley Webb added a field goal

They made 17-36 from inside the arc for 47.2 %, 4 of 12 from beyond for 33.3% and 9-14 from the line for 64.3%.  They improved to 11-3  and will face Delta in a key conference match up tonight at home at 6 pm.

Coach Larry Boshell said, "We got to work on a couple of things tonight, built a big lead and let some players get some rest since we have 3 games this week.  Players that have not played as much this year saw significant minutes tonight."

"I felt defensively we did okay, but not quite in the passing lanes as much as I would like, but of course I want deflections every time they pass the ball," He added.

"The effort has been great and we will need that effort again [tonight] against a scrappy Delta team," He concluded.
