Eagles defeat Devils

The Oran High School boys basketball team hosted conference foe, Chaffee, on Tuesday and picked up a pair of wins.  The jayvee won 58-36.  For the varsity, it was also a district matchup.  The Eagles came out on top 73-46.

In the opener, the Eagles led 10-4 after one and expanded the margin the rest of the way.

Seth Cauble led all scorers with 17. Robbie Menz had 10.  Cauble hit two treys and Menz one.

Kolton Payne had nine points, Nick Romas had seven.  Diesel Cato added six.  Landon Cochran scored four.  Camdyn Triblett and Connor Watkins each had a field goal.  Luke Peterson made a free throw to round out the scoring.

They hit 11 of 20 at the line, for 55%.  They improved to 5-0 and 11-2.

Coach Joe Bickings said, "It was good to see us respond well to our defeat against Bernie.  I thought we played a little better defense and shared the ball very well.  I don't think we shot the ball extremely well as I felt like we missed a few too many baskets close to the rim but sometimes that happens.  We have to get back after it in practice and prepare for Bell City on Friday."

In the nightcap, the Eagles came out a bit flat and trailed most of the first quarter.
A putback by Tyson Goodale and a three at the buzzer by Langdon Scheeter allowed Oran end the first with an 18-14 lead.  A Chaffee time out with 4:22 remaining before halftime and the Eagles were up 33-16 and were never threatened again.

Goodale was all but unstoppable down low and finished with a game-high 32.  Scheeter had 16, including 4 three's.  He scored 11 and three three's during that second-quarter run.

Cooper Priggel had seven, including two from beyond the arc.  Ty Johnson had six, Dane Shands and Samuel Shoemaker had five each.  Shands hit a three-pointer.

Goodale led the team with seven rebounds.  Cooper Priggel had a team-high six assists.

They hit 22 of 35 from inside the arch for 62.9%, 7 of 19 from beyond for 37.8% and 8 of 12 from the line for 66.7%.  Both teams grabbed 28 rebounds.  The Eagles had 12 turnovers and Chaffee 21.

Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "I thought we started a little sluggish but picked it up as the game went on. Tyson and Langdon had good nights on the offensive end and I thought we played unselfishly and did a good job of getting them the ball."

The varsity improved to 4-1 and 14-2.  The Eagles travel to Bell City on Friday to take on the Cubs at 6 pm.
