Boys wallop Warriors

The top-seeded Oran varsity boys basketball team picked up a semifinal victory last night over the fourth-seeded Valle Catholic Warriors, 67-43 to move on to their fifth-straight district championship game.  They have won the last three.

Last night, the score was tied at seven with about 3 minutes left in the first quarter.  The Eagles closed out the period with a 13-4 run to take a 20-11 lead into the second.

The Eagles went on an 11-0 run to start the second and took a 36-19 lead into the half-time lockerrooms. Last year the Boys ended Valle's season in the sectional round, by a similar score, 69-41.  The Lady Eagles also defeated Valle in the sectional contest, that score was 75-25.

Last night, the Eagles put three in double-figures, led by Tyson Goodale's' game-high 24, including one three-pointer. Goodale had a double-double with 15 rebounds Ty Johnson had 19 and one trey.  Cooper Priggel scored 16.  He hit two from beyond the arc and was 4-4 from the line.

Dane Shands and Samuel Shoemaker each had four.

Priggel, Shoemaker and Langdon Scheeter each had a team-high three assists.

Coach Joe Shoemaker said, "First it was nice to have everyone back and available, for the second game all year.  I thought we played well and advanced to the next round which is always the goal at this time of the year."

They were 13 of 20 from the line for 65%. they were 21 of 39 from inside the arc for 53.8% and 4 of 15 from beyond for 26.7%.  They outrebounded the taller Warriors 36-28 and forced 22 turnovers and committed 14 of their own. More stats when they become available.

the Eagles improved to 23-5 and will face #2 seed St. Vincent for the title on Thursday at 7:30.  Two weeks ago the boys beat the Indians on the road 57-51. In the first game of the evening at 6 pm.  The top-seeded Lady Eagles will face #3-seed St Vincent (13-13).  Oran defeated the Lady Indians at home a week and a half ago 72-23.
