Lady Eagles close out regular season with victories

The Oran High School girls basketball team hit the road last night to finish out the regular season.  They traveled to Scott City to take on their conference foes, the Lady Rams.  The junior varsity won a two-quarter contest 30-7 and the varsity rolled 67-30.

In the opener, Oran led 17-0 after one and went on to win by 23.

Haley Webb scored seven for the winners, including a trey.  Hannah Boshell and Grace Davis had six apiece, Daley had five and Taylor Hobbs four.  Emma Priggel added a field goal.

They were 5 of 8 from the line for 62.5%.  They finished the year undefeated in conference play (5-0), won the conference tournament and ended up 10-1 overall.

Coach Boshell said, "The girls came out and played very well their last two quarters of the season.  In a limited amount of games this year, I feel that this group got better throughout the season and will do nothing but continue to get better over the next few years."

In the nightcap, after losing its last two games on the road to Poplar Bluff and Dexter Oran soared out to a 21-9 lead after one and 36-15 at the half and was never threatened.  As they picked up the 37-point win.

Katie Webb led all scorers with 18 points.  She went 8-8 from the line.  Kaylee Payne had 14 and got bonus points for completing a "secret squirrel assignment on the court!".  Hope Woodfin had 12 and the team's only three-pointer of the night.

Taylor Lowes scored 7, Grace Davis had six and Mallory Lowes added four.  Paige Bradley, Heather Gosche and Traci Hency had two apiece.

Boshell said, "We came back after a tough loss the night before and really took care of business from the start.  We shot the ball better from the floor and the free throw line, we moved better offensively and cut down on our turnovers.  If we can continue to limit turnovers I believe we have a chance to beat anyone we play.  We were working on a few different things that hopefully will help us in the playoffs this year.  The girls have been very responsive to any challenge that we have given them and I am very excited about the chance we have going forward.  "

The varsity heads into the post-season with a 20-5 record overall, with all five defeats coming from SEMO Conference teams.  They went undefeated (8-0) in the Scott-Miss Conference.  They won the conference tournament for the fifth straight year.  Starting Saturday at 11:15 they will start the process to attempt to claim their 7th straight district crown when they face Puxico at Bloomfield.
