Both the 7th and 8th grade basketball teams won their opening round games Saturday in the Scott-Mississippi Conference tournament at Scott City.
In the 7th grade game the Eagles were able to forge a 5 point lead going into the half 12-7 and then hold on for an exciting 24-23 victory over the #5 seed Chaffee Red Devils.
Oran was led by sixth graders Ty Johnson with 8 points and Dane Shands with 6. Johnson was 6 for 6 from the free throw line.
The #4 seed Eagles are now 8-5 and will face #1 seed Delta on Wednesday at 4 pm.
The 8th grade Eagles, also the fourth seed, defeated Scott County Central 56-40. Oran jumped out to a 17-8 lead after the first quarter and 27-19 at half. The Eagles (10-3) took a 43-30 lead into the final frame.
Jacob Shoemaker scored 25 to lead all scorers. Layne Robinson poured in 21 including 3 from beyond the arc.
Oran will now face the top seeded East Prairie Eagles Wednesday at 7 pm.
