A nip and tuck first quarter saw the Eagles with a 15-11 lead. Freshman Leah Cauble scored 13 of her game high 31 points during the first eight minutes.
At the 4:24 mark of the 2nd period, Chaffee took a time out, with Oran up by twelve, 27-15. The margin remained an even dozen at the half-time intermission, 36-24.
During the third, the Eagles struggled offensively. They opened the second half with six straight empty possessions and the Red Devils had cut the lead to 36-29 with 5:43 left.
To start the fourth, Oran led by nine, 44-35. With 5:14 remaining in the contest the lead was eight. But from there on out the Eagles stretched the lead, thanks in large part, by hitting 9 of 12 from the free throw line over the final eight minutes.
A very happy Coach Ethan Evans had this to say about the accomplishment, "I was extremely proud of the way the girls played against a good Chaffee team at their place. It is a blessing to be a part of a team that was the first to win the Chaffee tournament in school history. This was the first big goal that we had for this year and it was nice to accomplish it."
Cauble, with her 31 points was named to the all-tournament first team. She had one from beyond the arc and was 10-11 from the line she also dished out four assists. Junior Brianna Stause was also named to the first team. She scored 10, including two from long range. Freshman Jesse Long was named to the tournament's second team. She dropped in 11 and led the team with 14 rebounds for another double-double.
Tatum May and Ashlyn McIntosh both added four. McIntosh was 2-2 from the line.
Madison Ramsey and Hannah Scherer both saw action but did not score.
Oran was 19-49 from inside the arc for 38.% and 3-21 from beyond for only 14.3%. At the free throw line the Eagles were 14-8 for 77.8%
Oran's only other appearance in the tournament's championship game was in 2013 when they lost to Woodland, 44-38.
