With 3:54 left in the first quarter, the Eagles were down ten, 12-2. At the 2:02 mark it was 14-6 and by the first buzzer the lead was down to four at 14-10. Oran chipped another point off of that lead during the second and trailed by only three, 28-25.
It was the third period that proved to be the Eagles' downfall. The Rams out scored Oran 16-3 during that stanza and the Eagles trailed 44-28.
With five minutes to go in the game Oran was down 49-30, but the Eagles scored the next 20 points, and took the lead with 6.7 seconds left, on a jumper by Max Priggel. After a time-out, though, Scott City took the ball the length of the court and hit a baseline runner at the buzzer for the one point victory.
Priggel stepped up big during the valiant come back, scoring 13 of his game-high 20 during the final eight minutes. He was 6-6 from the line and hit one of his two treys during the quarter.
Jacob Shoemaker scored 7 of his 17 points during the final frame and was 5 of 6 from the line in the fourth.
Layne Johnson tallied 6, Garrsion Mangels added 4 and Cole Priggel chipped in 3.
Preston Hahn and Blake Schlitt saw the court but did not score.
Oran was 14 of 19 from the line for 74%.
With the loss the varsity fell to 2-3 and 0-1 in conference.
Junior Varsity:
It was a different style of loss in the opener.
In that game the Eagles led 13-10 after one and 25-19 at the intermission.
During the second half, however, momentum swung to the home team, as they cut the lead to 30-28 heading into the final quarter.
During that final seven minutes it was all Scott City as they won the quarter, 25-15, to claim the eight point win, 53-45.
Drew Reischman led the Eagles with 16. Ben Fox had 10.
Joey Phillips added 8, while Kalen Read contributed 4. Jon Shipley hit a trey for his three points. Bradley Brooks and Denver Elfrink each added 2.
William Kluesner, Peyton McVay and Avery Mitchem all got action but did not score.
Oran was 10-16 for 63%.
The junior varsity fell to 0-2 and 0-1 in the league.
