Volleyball makes history


For the first time ever, the Oran High School volleyball team won their pool in conference
tournament pool play.  The Eagles went 7-1 in the South Division last night at Scott City.

They opened their evening with a 25-20 and 25-16 victory over Kennent.

Kaylee Payne had 7 aces and 2 kills.  Brianna Stause had 6 aces and a kill.  Kenzie Graviett added 4 aces and 4 kills.  Jessie Long pounded out 5 kills and added a block. Megan Tenkhoff chipped in with 2 aces.  The setters, Olivia Schlosser and Cassie Cochran, dished out 7 and 5 assists, respectively.

Match 2 saw the Eagles breeze past Scott City 25-18, 25-16.

Stause had an ace, 5 kills and a block, while Long had 2 aces, 2 kills and also added a block.  Payne had a pair of aces and 3 kills.  Graviett slammed home 4 kills, while Tenkhoff had an ace and a kill.  Schlosser had 8 assists and Cochran added an ace and 6 assists.

Oran split the third match as they routed New Madrid County Central in game one,  25-10 and led 23-21 in game two but lost 26-24.

Long led the way with 5 aces and 4 kills.  Payne had a pair of aces and 5 kills while Graviett had an ace and 6 kills.  Stause had 2 kills and 2 blocks and Tenkhoff added an ace and a kill.  Schlosser had an ace and 8 assists while Cochran handed out 8 assists also.

The final match of the evening saw the Eagles defeat Charleston 25-20, 25-20.

Stause had 3 aces, 3 kills and 2 block as Long added 3 aces, 2 kills and 1 block.  Graviett had an ace and slammed 7 kills.  Payne had a pair of aces and 4 kills while Tenkhoff also had a pair of aces and had a kill. Schlosser reached double-digits with 10 assists as Cochran added an ace to go along with 7 assists.

Head Coach Larry Boshell said, "We played really well all evening.  I am so proud of this teams effort.  We are playing well right now and if we continue to play well we have a shot at competing in the district tournament."

Oran, now 10-12-2, will face the winner of the Sikeston vs Charleston match on Wednesday at 6 pm in the single elimination bracket portion of the SEMO Conference Tournament also held at Scott City.
