Eagles pick up win over Twin Rivers

The Oran High School girls basketball team looked sluggish as it started it's 11:30 a.m. contest this morning on Gene Bess Court at Three Rivers College against the Twin Rivers Royals.

The Eagles trailed 14-11 after one and 34-28 at the intermission.

Coach Ethan Evans was able to motivate his crew during the half-time break, however, and Oran took the lead 47-44 heading into the final eight minutes.   The Eagles continued expanding the lead and ended up winning by 10, 73-63.

Despite giving up 10 three's, Oran was able to pick up its first win in 3 tries against Royals in the neutral site series.

Leah Cauble led all scorers as she torched the Royals for 40.  She hit 2 from long range and added 8 free throws.  28 of those points came during the second half when Oran was making its surge.   Brianna Stause hit 3 from beyond the arc and finished with 13 total. Jessie Long, the third Eagle in double-digits, added 10 points.

Kaylee Payne had 7 points, while Claire Ramsey chipped in 3 on free throws.  Kenzie Graviett saw considerable action but did not score.

Oran was 12 of 19 from the line for 68%.

No other stats were available.

The junior varsity did not play.

The varsity is now 11-0 on the year.

They will be back in action on Monday when they begin their defense of the Scott-Mississippi Conference Tournament crown.  They are the number one seed and will face number eight seed Scott City at 7 pm.  The tournament is hosted by Delta this year.
