The Oran High School girls basketball team came into the Scott-Mississippi Conference tournament with the number one seed. It didn't take long to figure out why as they routed the 8th-seeded Scott City Rams 95-15.
The Eagles soared out to a 28-2 first quarter lead and cruised to the 80 point victory.
Coach Ethan Evans said, "We came out and took care of business from the get go last night. The defensive effort was good and we shot the ball well. We worked on a few things defensively that we will try and use going forward."
Leah Cauble poured in 38 points. She was 5 of 6 from three. She grabbed 5 rebounds, had 4 assists and 4 steals, in three quarters of playing time. Kaylee Payne had 19 points and a team-high 8 rebounds. She had 6 assists on the evening.
Brianna Stause and Madison Ramsey both hit 3 of 6 from beyond the arc for 9 points apiece. Stause also had 5 assists and 5 steals. Jessie Long had scored 8 and had 4 steals as well. Claire Ramsey rounded out the scoring with 6 of her own. She hit a trey and added 6 assists and 6 steals.
Oran hit 28-47 from inside the arc for 59.6% and 12-27 from beyond for 44.4%. They only had 5 free-throw attempts. They made 3 for 60%.
The Eagles improved to 12-0 on the year while Scott City remained winless at 0-10.
Tournament action resumes on Wednesday. The junior varsity, seeded second, will face the third-seeded Kelly Hawks at 5:30. The varsity will play at 7 pm and will take on the No. 4 seeded Chaffee Lady Devils. In an earlier meeting, Oran prevailed 81-46.
