VB sweeps Zalma

The Oran High School volleyball teams swept visiting Zalma last night.  The jayvee won 25-6, 25-14 while the varsity prevailed 25-6, 25-20.  The younger team is now 3-5 while the older girls have reached the .500 mark at 7-7-1.

Kennedi McVay had seven kills, five aces and three assists.  Savannah Below also had seven kills.  She added a dig, an ace and an assist.  Sam Welter dished out five assists, served three aces and also had a dig. Paige Bradley and Heather Gosche had two kills each.  Meagan Henson had a kill of her own for the junior varsity.

In the nightcap, Kaylee Payne reached double-digits in kills with 10. She also had a dig and an assist.

Cassie Cochran had nine assists, an ace and a dig.  Jessie Long contributed three kills, two blocks, two digs as well as assist and an ace.  Ali Hornback had four kills and two digs.  Kamryn Graviett and Malia LeGrand each served an ace.

Coach Wibbenmeyer said, "We started off strong in the first set. The only points they got were off of our errors such as not talking, missed serves, and hitting errors. And totaled 6 and that’s the points they got."

"For the second game, the girls just didn’t play as hard as the first game. We had a lot more errors and Zalma had a tall middle that when she got a good swing on the ball she got it straight down. We will continue to work in practice and become more consistent. Last week in practice we worked more on serve receiving and hitting to open positions on the court. We tried to hit the back corners and I could tell in the game last night the drill was working for us. We hit the back two corners at least four times so we will continue to work on that! It was a great game and I hope the girls keep it up," she added.

It was the second straight win for the varsity.  They will host Sikeston tonight at 6 pm.
