The Oran Lady Eagles walloped the Woodland Cardinals last night in a semi-final contest in the Lady Devils Invitational tournament 94-30. The win over the fourth-seeded Cardinals improved the to top-seeded Eagles to 4-0 and into Saturday's 4 pm title game against the winner of tonights' (3) Puxico versus (2) Chaffee contest. Oran is the two-time defending champions of the tournament.
Coach Ethan Evans said, "I thought our man to man pressure to start the game really set the tone. We knew pace was going to be the key to winning the game and we dictated that from the very start. I was very proud of the way we played both offensively and defensively against a good, well-coached Woodland team, great effort."
The Lady Eagles did jump out early. They led 30-12 after one and continued to grow that margin before winning by 64 points.
Leah Cauble scored a game-high 42 points. She hit two from beyond the arc and was 6 of 7 from the line. Kaylee Payne finished with 19 points. She hit 5 of 10 attempts from behind the three-point line. Payne had three assists, four rebounds and five steals.
Madison Ramsey had nine points on 3 of 5 shooting from long-range. Claire Ramsey hit two treys for her six points. Jessie Long also had six points and five steals. Katie Webb ended up with five points. She hit 3 of 4 free throw attempts. Katelyn Streeter had four points and three assists.
Oran hit 21 of 36 from inside the arc for 58.3% and 13 of 29 from beyond (44.8%). At the charity stripe, they hit 72.2% (13-18).
But before that championship tilt, the Eagles will be traveling to Riverside High School in Lake City, AR on Friday at 6:15 to take on the Hoxie (AR) Mustangs, the defending Arkansas class 3A state Champions in the Gerald Jennings Girls Classic. Admission is $5 per person.
In last year's championship, the Eagles defeated Puxico 85-41. Two year's ago it was Oran over Chaffee 57-43.
