Lady Eagles lose for the first time this season

The Oran High School girls varsity basketball team lost its first game last night in the in the Gerald Jennings Girls Classic held at Riverside High School in Lake City, Ark.  The Lady Eagles fell to the defending Arkansas 3A state champs, the Hoxie Lady Mustangs, 76-68.

Oran led after one, 17-14 but trailed at the half, 42-36.  The Eagles kept it close the rest of the way but could never get over the hump in the 8 point loss.

Coach Ethan Evans said, "The 2nd quarter was the difference in the game. They just got after it much harder that quarter than we did. This was a good early season measuring stick for us to see how we stack up against a really good team. Overall I thought our effort was pretty good."

Leah Cauble pumped in 40 points.  She was 5 of 6 from beyond the arc and 9 of 10 at the line.  She also grabbed six rebounds.  Jessie Long recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.

Katelyn Streeter scored eight points, she hit two of three from three.  Madison Ramsey totaled five points, she hit a trey and had three steals.  Kaylee Payne scored four, in limited action due to reoccurring shin splint pain.  She hit a three-pointer and had two assists.  Katie Webb hit a free throw to round out the scoring.

As a team, they hit 15 of 29 inside the arc for 51.7%.  Beyond the arc, they were 9 of 27 for 33.3%. At the charity stripe, they were 11-14 for 78.6%

The varsity is now 4-1 and will be back in action this afternoon at 4 pm in the championship game of the Lady Devil Invitational facing the hosts, Chaffee.
